Week 1: Getting Started

Day 1: Setting Goals and Preparing

Before diving into decluttering, it's essential to set realistic goals. What do you want to achieve by the end of this challenge? Whether it's creating a more spacious living room or finding your favourite books more easily, setting your goals will keep you motivated.

Use the following guide, to create a visual calendar to plan and schedule your decluttering tasks for the upcoming 30 days. This will help you keep track of your progress. And if you happen to miss a day, don't be discouraged; just keep going!

Day 2: Creating a Decluttering System

Now that you've started a plan, it's time to set up a system to streamline the process. Create labelled boxes or bins for your ‘Keep,” "Sell," "Donate," and "Discard" items. This system will help you stay organised throughout the challenge.

Day 3: Sorting Books

Today, focus on your book collection. Start by sorting your books into four categories: “Keep,” “Sell,” “Donate,” or “Discard.” As you go through each book, ask yourself if you plan to read it again or if it holds sentimental value. Be honest with yourself, and remember that decluttering doesn't mean letting go of cherished memories.

Day 4: Organising CDs and DVDs

Sorting through your music and movie collections can be a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Organise your CDs and DVDs by genre or artist to make it easier to find your favourites. Consider digitising your music and movies to free up physical space.

5: Game Collection

Games often hold sentimental value, but it's essential to evaluate which ones you still enjoy playing. Decide which games to keep, and if you have duplicates or games you've outgrown, consider selling or donating them.

Day 6 and 7: Selling, Donating and Recycling

To make space in your home for further sorting, you may decide to use the end of this week to get rid of your unwanted books, games, DVDs and CDs. Discover the best sites to sell your unwanted stuff online. Follow our tips on where to sell, donate and recycle on day 29 of this post.

Day 8: Clean and Declutter All Tupperware (Or Containers)

Let's tackle that Tupperware cabinet! Empty it, match lids to containers, and bid farewell to any mismatched or damaged pieces. Keep only what you truly need and use. Say goodbye to that jumbled mess!

Day 9: Under-Sink Cupboard

Today, we're delving into the mysterious realm beneath your kitchen sink. Sort through cleaning supplies, dish soap, and random odds and ends. Discard empty or expired items and organise the rest. You'll be amazed at how much space you'll reclaim.

Day 10: Bid Farewell to Old Cloths and Sponges

Old, worn-out kitchen cloths and sponges? It's time to part ways. Gather them up and get rid. Treat your kitchen to fresh cleaning supplies, ready to tackle any mess.

Day 11: Check for Out-of-Date Food

Open those pantry doors and scour through the shelves. Look for any expired or long-forgotten items. Say goodbye to that can of beans from 2017 and create space for fresh, usable ingredients.

Day 12: The Empty Bottle Purge

We all have a collection of empty bottles lurking in our kitchen – be it sauce bottles, condiment containers, or jars. Today, clear them out! Rinse, recycle, or repurpose them as needed. Enjoy a clutter-free kitchen.

Day 13: Show Love to Your Dishwasher

Our trusty dishwashers deserve some attention too! Clean the filters and wipe down the door seals. This appliance works hard, so ensure it stays in tip-top shape.

Day 14: Shine Those Kitchen Surfaces

Let's wrap up Week 2 by giving your kitchen a fresh new look. Clean all the kitchen surfaces, including countertops, cabinet door fronts, and skirting boards. Enjoy the sparkle!

Day 17: Goodbye Old Cloths and Loofahs

Bid farewell to old, worn-out washcloths and loofahs. You deserve a refreshing and rejuvenating shower experience. Replace them with new ones and feel the difference.

Day 18: A Date with Your Products

Open your bathroom cabinet and take a close look at your toiletries and beauty products. Check for expiration dates and say goodbye to anything past its prime. Keep only what you'll use.

Week 4: Revamp Your Clothing and Laundry Area

As we delve into the clothing section of our decluttering challenge, let's rejuvenate not only our clothing but also the space where we wash and store them.

Day 22 - Freshen Up Your Washing Machine

Begin by giving your trusty washing machine some TLC. Run a cleaning cycle to ensure it's in top-notch condition.

Day 23 - Tackle Lingering Laundry:

Inspect every nook and cranny of your home for any stray items of clothing that need washing. Collect them and prepare for a laundry day.

Day 24 - Round 2 of Laundry:

Just when you thought you had gathered all the laundry, check one more time for any overlooked items. It's the second round of laundry duty!

Day 25 - Dive into Your Wardrobe:

It's the first round of sorting through your wardrobe. Take it step by step, going through one wardrobe at a time. Consider what you want to keep, what needs to go, and what could be donated or sold.

Day 26 - Round 2 of Wardrobe Sorting:

Today, revisit your wardrobe with a fresh perspective. Sometimes, a second look allows you to make more confident decisions about what to keep and what to part with.

Day 27 - Organise and Store Clothing:

Now, it's time to address clothing that may have been left lying around during your big sort. Put away, hang up, or neatly fold any garments that have found their way to random spots in your home.

Day 28 - Round 2 of Organisation:

Continuing from yesterday, ensure that all clothing is properly stored. A tidy living space contributes to a stress-free lifestyle.

By the end of this week, your clothing will be well-organised, your laundry will be up to date, and you'll have a clearer picture of your wardrobe essentials. Keep up the great work!

Day 29: Get Selling, Donating and Recycling Your Items

Over the 30 day declutter challenge, you’ve no doubt collected a stash of items to sell/ donate ranging from books to clothing. To make it easy we’ve listed the top places for you to sell/ donate your items:

Where to Donate, Sell and Recycle Your Unwanted Items:

While parting with your items may seem challenging, remember that they deserve to be enjoyed rather than gathering dust on your shelves or in your wardrobe.

1. Charity Shops

Supporting charities through donations is not only a kind gesture but also a meaningful way to contribute to a good cause. Some notable charities that welcome your contributions include Oxfam, The Salvation Army, The British Red Cross, and The Literacy Trust.

2. eBay

Selling items on eBay can be a great way to get rid of things you no longer need and make some extra money. One of the benefits is that you can reach a wide audience of potential buyers from all over the world, increasing your chances of selling your items quickly. Plus, it's easy to list items for sale, and you have control over pricing and shipping options.

However, there are some disadvantages to consider too. eBay charges fees for listing and selling items, which can eat into your profits. Dealing with buyers, packaging, and shipping can be time-consuming, and there's always the possibility of returns or disputes. So, while eBay can be a useful platform for selling unwanted items, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons before diving in.

3. WeBuyBooks

You've got another option too! If you want to sell those books, CDs, and DVDs you no longer need, just hop over to our WeBuyBooks platform. It's super easy! You can either enter the ISBN number or use our app to scan the barcode on your items.

We won't make you wait through a bidding process; we'll give you an instant offer. Once we receive your unwanted items and they meet our condition guidelines, you'll get paid the day after.

Ready to sell your items? Start selling here.

Recycling

If your items aren't suitable for donation, explore responsible recycling options in your area.

Day 30: Reflect and Celebrate

Congratulations on completing the 30 day declutter challenge! Take this day to reflect on your decluttering journey and the positive changes you've made in your space and life. Celebrate your accomplishments and the transformation of your home.
